Welcome and Reflections: Dancing Through Life

Hello, and as always, thank you for joining me! A special welcome to new subscribers—it’s wonderful to have you here. To those who have been with me for a while, especially those who contribute to discussions and support others, I truly appreciate each and every one of you. Your presence means so much to me.

Today is one of those on-and-off rainy days. I planned to record outside, but as soon as I set up, the rain decided to start. Typical, right? But let’s focus on something that brings joy: dancing.

Strictly Come Dancing: A Weekend Highlight

Over the weekend, I indulged in one of my favorite pastimes: watching Strictly Come Dancing. It’s a perfect way to relax and unwind. Afterward, I called my friend in Middlesbrough, and we discussed everything—from the costumes to the dances and even the stunning settings. This week’s episode took place in Blackpool, adding an extra layer of magic to the show.

On Sundays, we debate who got eliminated and whether it was the right decision. It’s always a lively chat! Neither of us can simply sit and watch a show without overanalyzing everything—be it the storylines, the scenery, or why certain things happen.

My Dancing Journey: From Ballet Shoes to Ballroom Memories

Watching Strictly brings back fond memories of my own dancing days. I started at the tender age of three and a half with my first pair of ballet shoes. I adored ballet, tap, and musical comedy. At four, I even performed my first solo on stage, much to my mother’s emotional delight—though she paid for it with a migraine the next day!

Dancing gave me confidence and taught me to embrace challenges. Though I wasn’t the best dancer, I loved it. Sadly, when I moved to secondary school, my parents decided I needed to focus on homework and stopped my lessons. Looking back, I wish I could have continued, but their decision was well-meaning.

Later, I did some ballroom dancing with my dad, creating cherished memories of waltzes, quicksteps, and foxtrots. One song, “Dance with My Father Again,” always brings a tear to my eye, as it reminds me of those precious moments.

Unforgettable Salsa Adventures

One of my most amusing dance memories happened at a wedding in Spain, where they held a salsa class as part of the reception. Though I initially sat out, a charming young man invited me to dance. Let’s just say his interpretation of salsa was more… expressive than the class!

Meanwhile, my ex-husband—who was also at the wedding—watched from afar, looking decidedly unimpressed. It was a funny, slightly awkward experience that I’ll never forget.

The Joy of Dancing: Then and Now

These days, I don’t dance often, but occasionally, I’ll throw myself around the living room to some 60s music. Dancing like no one is watching and singing like no one is listening is the best therapy. It doesn’t matter if you’re out of time or offbeat—what matters is moving to the music and enjoying yourself.

Closing Thoughts

Thank you for joining me today. If dancing isn’t your thing, I hope I didn’t bore you too much. But if you love to dance, take a moment to let loose—it’s good for the soul.

Take care, keep moving, and I’ll speak to you soon. Bye for now!
