Waking Up to Snow: Reflections on Nature, Burdens, and Resilience
Good morning! Today, I woke up to the magical sight of snow. While it may seem like nothing compared to the heavy snowfalls some of you experience, it’s still a rare treat here in Cheshire. By tonight, it will likely all be gone—I can already hear the drip-drip-drip of melting snow.
Even though the driveway and roads are barely covered, the trees and rooftops look stunning. Snow has a way of making everything appear fresh and clean, even if it makes my house look a little dull by comparison.
Finding Beauty in Everyday Moments
Snow transforms the mundane. Even the dustbin waiting for collection seems charming with its little white hat. It’s moments like these that inspire reflection. Snow cleanses the world, and it makes me think about what else we’d like to clean—not just our surroundings but our lives and minds.
For me, litter is a big frustration. People tossing trash out of car windows or leaving it behind as they walk or cycle annoys me deeply. It’s a selfish act, assuming someone else will deal with it. Why should they?
The Emotional Weight We Carry
This snow also reminds me of the weight that nature—and we—carry. The trees are bending under the snow, much like we bend under emotional burdens. Whether it’s grief, stress, or uncertainty, these weights are heavy and take energy to bear.
How do you cope with emotional weight? For me, a warm cup of tea and a heartfelt chat with a trusted friend works wonders. I’m lucky to have a close circle of friends who share their burdens with me, just as I do with them.
Reflections on Resilience
Looking around my garden, I see my Buddha statue sitting peacefully, sheltered from the snow. It’s a reminder of resilience, which many people need in challenging times. My thoughts drift to those in war-torn areas, where fear, hunger, and uncertainty weigh heavily on families and children.
Life’s challenges can feel like snow piling onto our branches, but we find ways to shake off that weight—whether through sharing with friends, practicing gratitude, or simply taking one step at a time.
Cherishing the Small Joys
As I finish my morning reflections, I realize I forgot to put away the rake last time I was out. Maybe one day, I’ll be more organized—or maybe not! For now, I’ll enjoy this fleeting snow, feed the birds, and take in the beauty of nature before it melts away.
Snow is a gentle reminder to find joy in the moment and let go of the burdens we can.
Take care of yourselves, and I’ll see you soon. Bye for now!
